About Recipe Planner
What is Recipe Planner?
Recipe Planner is a cooking coordination tool that helps you manage multiple recipes simultaneously. By organizing your cooking steps into an intelligent timeline, it helps you seamlessly weave together recipes and make the most of your time in the kitchen.
Whether you're preparing a simple weeknight dinner or coordinating a complex holiday feast, Recipe Planner ensures that all your dishes come together at the perfect time, reducing stress and improving your cooking experience.
The Story Behind Recipe Planner
Like many home cooks, I often found myself wanting to show off a bit for potlucks and make two or three things to bring. Every time I would have to juggle all the recipes in my head and then try to work back from when I needed to leave to figure out when I had to start baking, and often I'd forget about some step or waiting period and ended up having to rush a few steps or finish late.
The breaking point came during a holiday dinner preparation where I was managing three different dishes with various cooking times, prep requirements, and waiting periods. I realized I was spending more time calculating timing than actually cooking! That's when I decided to build a tool that would handle the mental overhead of cooking coordination.
Recipe Planner was born from the simple idea that cooking (and baking!) should be enjoyable, not stressful. By automating the timing calculations and visualizing the cooking process, home cooks can focus on what they love most: creating delicious meals.
Perfect For These Situations
1. Weeknight Dinner Coordination
Plan a main dish with two sides that all finish at the same time. Perfect for busy weeknights when you want a complete meal without the stress.
Example: Baked chicken (45 min), roasted vegetables (30 min), and rice pilaf (25 min) - all timed to finish together at 7:00 PM.
2. Holiday Dinner Organization
Coordinate multiple dishes for special occasions. Manage turkey, stuffing, sides, and desserts with confidence, ensuring everything is ready when guests arrive.
Example: Turkey (4 hours), stuffing (1 hour), mashed potatoes (45 min), green beans (20 min), and pie (pre-made) - all orchestrated for a 6:00 PM dinner.
3. Weekly Meal Prep Sessions
Batch cook multiple recipes efficiently by identifying overlapping prep time and optimizing oven and stovetop usage across different meals.
Example: Overnight oats (5 min prep), roasted vegetables (15 min prep + 45 min cook), grilled chicken (10 min prep + 25 min cook), and quinoa salad (20 min prep).
4. Sourdough Bread Scheduling
Plan the long fermentation and rising times of artisan breads around your daily schedule. Never miss a fold or wonder when to start your bulk fermentation.
Example: Feed starter (12 hours), mix dough (30 min), bulk fermentation (4 hours with folds), shape and final proof (2 hours), then bake (45 min) - timed for fresh bread at dinner.
